Friday of the 4 th Week of Lent
Peter Gonzales: Freshman
Readings: Wis 2:1a, 12-22/Jn 7:1-2, 10, 25-30 (248)
The book of Wisdom verses 2:1a,12-22 truly does describe how the rabbis
and religious leaders reacted to “Just One.” The verses read: “The wicked
said among themselves, thinking not aright: "Let us beset the just one
because he is obnoxious to us; he sets himself against our doings.” The
verses not only show how the wicked would react to Jesus but how many
people nowadays are when criticism or new ideas come around. So many
people will respond with hate and negativity to anything that may oppose
what they are doing. It doesn’t matter whether the person is in the right or
the wrong the way that they have tried to justify themselves has made
them in the wrong.
The Gospel of John shows another side of what a person does when they
know that there is an opposition to what they do quote “Jesus moved about
within Galilee; he did not wish to travel in Judea, because the Jews were
trying to kill him.” We may try to avoid the people who oppose what we do
but “The Jewish feast of Tabernacles was near. But when his brothers had
gone up to the feast, he himself also went up.” One way or another, the
society, a group of people, or simply just an individual, we all, in one way
or another must face what oppose us but not with hate and negativity but
with the mindset to show them your side. We may not succeed in changing
the minds of the people or the person that you show our side. Jesus
himself did not change every person's mind to the truth but by being like
Jesus that person will never lose for they will never let negativity nor hate
control what they say.
