As Bishop of the Diocese of San Angelo, it brings me great joy to see the good fruits that are produced when our people take the initiative to pursue a worthwhile goal. What I have seen among Catholics in West Texas is an impressive amount of good that is achieved by taking creative steps to find solutions to real human needs.
Our young people deserve the opportunity to develop their faith and their minds in the holistic educational environment of a Catholic high school. Several years before I arrived in the diocese, the need for a Catholic high school in the Permian Basin had already been discussed. Soon after I became bishop, we formed a board of directors made up of committed Catholics from Midland and Odessa. The board has been hard at work bringing this vision of Holy Cross Catholic High School to reality.
It is a joy to see the students, teachers, and administrators interacting with such mutual respect and deep commitment to the vision of Catholic education.
The Book of James (1:22) says, “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only.” As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are called to be doers, not just hearers or spectators. I am very proud of those who are investing their time, creativity, and energy to make this school a thriving community of faith.
If you dedicate some of your resources to this worthwhile project, you will be laying a foundation of faith for generations to come.
I look forward to working with you as we witness the amazing things God can do when we step forward and trust in him.
In the joy of Christ’s service,
Most Rev. Michael J. Sis
Bishop of San Angelo
