Saturday of the 2 nd Week of Advent
Readings: Mt 17:9a, 10-13
Mrs. Carla Hernandez: Music Teacher
“I tell you that Elijah has already come,
and they did not recognize him but did to him whatever they pleased.
So also will the Son of Man suffer at their hands.”
How blind we can be when we are in a state of sin. Where our desires and
selfishness overshadow the Lord’s voice. Have you ever put your phone or keys
somewhere and one minute later, you can’t find it. The whole day goes by and
when you find it, it's in an open area all by itself, probably in the place you know
you put it. Imagine that phone or keys being God’s answers or God himself. The
whole day we were distracted by worldly things such as gossip, the next episode of
our favorite TV show. Your day included images of porn or vulgar language.
Maybe you were planning your revenge on someone or coming up with a sarcastic
remark that you knew was going to leave someone feeling hurt. Those activities
make our eyes blurry and dark, and we cannot see God right in front of us. We did
not recognize the goodness he was doing in our life and the path he was trying to
get us to take. If we had just looked up, we would have seen the hope and love he
was trying to show us.
During this Advent season, we are encouraged to go to confession. To clean our
souls so that our eyes can see more clearly. Let us take advantage of the
opportunities and encourage others to go, because we are not alone.
